Hedges are a common enough choice for delineating property lines and providing privacy from neighbours. Cedars, laurels, and yews are common in the Comox Valley, as they keep their foliage year-round, provide habitat for insects and animals, and grow tall enough to block sight lines. Depending on the distance, living hedges can also be more economical than a fence. However, hedges fall short when the growing conditions are not optimal – limited sun exposure, infrequent watering in the heat, and poor soil quality and drainage will all affect your ability to grow a fabulous hedge.
