Shorter days and cooler nights remind us that Autumn has arrived. Its time to clean up your annuals and prune down your perennials. Trees and shrubs can have dead branches removed to shape the plant and prevent disease. Remember to always clean up your clippings to avoid rot, bugs, or rodents! Spring bulbs can be planted while the ground is still warm. Adding a healthy amount of mulch (2-3”) in the Fall protects roots through the plants’ dormant phase, reduces weed growth, and retains moisture. As the mulch breaks down it adds extra nutrients to your soil.
